Rongsheng BOPs: Ensuring Success in Record-Breaking Aotan 1 Well

Jul. 04, 2024

June 11, China Petroleum News - The Aotan 1 well, which set the record for the deepest vertical depth in an Asian carbonate reservoir high-angle well, has been successfully completed. This significant achievement was made possible by the use of Rongsheng Company's independently developed blowout preventer sets, specifically the 35-105 and 28-140 models. These blowout preventers played a crucial role in the drilling operation, ensuring safety and reliability throughout the process.

Rongsheng's blowout preventer sets underwent more than eight months of practical testing in the Aotan 1 well, overcoming various complex geological conditions and extreme environments. Their performance was pivotal in supporting the Daqing Oilfield's new vertical depth record of 9,416.6 meters for high-angle wells in Asia, showcasing our exceptional reliability and effectiveness.

The Role of Rongsheng Blowout Preventers in Aotan 1 Well

Aotan 1 Well is located in the Manxipo fault zone of the Tarim Basin. It is a key deep-risk exploratory well deployed by China National Petroleum Corporation in the Daqing Tadong exploration area. Drilling commenced on October 15, 2023, penetrating nine layers including the Quaternary, Tertiary, Cretaceous, and Triassic systems from top to bottom. The geological conditions are complex, and the engineering technology requirements are high.

To safely drill this deepest carbonate reservoir high-angle well in Asia, the operation team targeted geological and engineering difficulties, simulating complex downhole conditions in advance. Based on the actual drilling needs and geological feedback data, Rongsheng's 54-70, 35-105, and 28-140 blowout preventer sets were applied to address different conditions of ultra-high temperature, ultra-high pressure, and ultra-deep layers. These preventers played a crucial role during the drilling process, enduring multiple overflow tests and demonstrating exceptional reliability, earning unanimous praise from the operators.

The entire construction of Aotan 1 Well was accident-free, achieving new breakthroughs in "deep earth engineering" for China Petroleum in terms of acceleration tools, directional tools, water-based mud, special rock and mineral logging technologies, and refined management. The success of this project highlights the importance of Rongsheng's high-end blowout preventers in ensuring drilling safety and efficiency.

Rongsheng's Market Success and Future Contributions

In recent years, Rongsheng's high-end blowout preventers have achieved remarkable success in market applications, especially in geologically complex regions like Southwest and Northwest China. They have successively ensured the safe completion of the 9,010-meter-deepest onshore natural gas horizontal well in the Southwest Oil and Gas Field and the 9,300-meter-deepest well in Asia, the Shendi No. 1 directional well in the Tarim Basin. These achievements demonstrate the reliability and effectiveness of Rongsheng's blowout preventer technology in challenging drilling environments.
