Rongsheng Completes Prototype of Ultra-High Temperature and High-Pressure Blowout Preventer System.

On July 24, 2024, Rongsheng Machinery Manufacture Ltd. in North China successfully completed the development of China's first 48 cm, 140 MPa large-bore, ultra-high temperature and high-pressure blowout preventer (BOP) prototype. This marks a breakthrough in the development of critical equipment for offshore oil and gas drilling in China and is significant for increasing the localization rate of major equipment in the country. It also plays an important role in breaking the dependence on foreign equipment in the field of deep-sea resource exploration.


As offshore oil and gas exploration and development move towards deeper, ultra-deep, unconventional, and offshore areas, drilling safety issues caused by high temperature and high pressure have become increasingly prominent, highlighting the urgent need to strengthen safety measures. In response to the fact that key equipment for ultra-high temperature and high-pressure offshore drilling systems in China is largely monopolized by foreign companies, leaving deep-sea drilling dependent on others, Rongsheng has been reinforcing its sense of urgency to achieve "high-level technological self-reliance and strength." The company has continuously challenged international standards in this field. Under the leadership of China Offshore Engineering Equipment Technology Development Co., Ltd., Rongsheng has intensified its R&D efforts on key equipment for deep-sea oil and gas exploration and has undertaken the technological challenge of ultra-high temperature and high-pressure well blowout preventers.

During the development process, Rongsheng remained committed to technological innovation, overcoming more than 20 key technical challenges. The company prioritized quality management, commissioning CCS to strictly oversee product design, manufacturing, and testing processes to ensure each product meets high standards and top quality. As of now, the project has achieved significant results, including the completion of eight technical reports, six design plans and drawings, five prototypes and test devices, and three national invention patent applications, one of which has been granted. As the leading domestic manufacturer in the production and sales of onshore blowout preventers, Rongsheng has consistently focused on the cutting-edge technology of global oil well control equipment. Through continuous technological investment and diligent research efforts, the company has developed over 40 products that have filled domestic gaps in the field of oil well control equipment.

Next, the prototype will undergo factory testing and sea trials to achieve platform installation, commissioning, and verification of key equipment. The goal is to establish a comprehensive system for the R&D, design, manufacturing, testing, standards, and certification of ultra-high temperature and high-pressure drilling equipment. This will systematically address technical bottlenecks in key equipment and lay a foundation for industrial application.
